How Subway Surfers Built a Web Gaming Powerhouse

When SYBO first considered bringing Subway Surfers to the web, the team was sceptical. Could a game known for its silky-smooth mobile experience really work in a browser? The answer turned out to be a resounding yes -- and the numbers exceeded all expectations.

The port required rethinking several core systems. Touch controls needed to feel native on both mobile browsers and desktop trackpads. Asset loading had to be aggressive enough to start gameplay within seconds but light enough to work on slower connections. And the rendering pipeline had to maintain 60fps across a wide range of devices.

SYBO worked with Poki's developer relations team to optimise every aspect of the experience. The result is a web version that loads in under three seconds and has a session length that actually exceeds the mobile version. Within six months of launch, Subway Surfers on web reached 50 million plays and became the most-played game on Poki.

The web gave us access to an audience we never knew existed. Players who would never download an app are playing Subway Surfers every day in their browser.
